type shit
Type shit is crude but friendly slang. After a description it means "that kind of thing", and as a reply on its own it means "exactly" or "I feel that".

What it means
Type shit does two jobs, and where it sits in the message tells you which one. Tacked onto a description, it labels the kind of thing being described: "sleeping in on a sunday type shit" means that relaxed, relatable kind of Sunday, and "stranger things type shit" means stuff in the style of Stranger Things. Sent alone as a reply, it agrees. If you text "you taking the day off?" and the answer is "type shit", the answer is yes, and it sounds like a good plan. Strong Language separates these two senses, and the Daily Dot describes the newer one as a way to agree, answer in the affirmative, or simply punctuate a sentence. Wiktionary also records a third habit, a closing tag that adds emphasis to a point the speaker just made. The tone is warm. Between friends it signals agreement, approval or a shared joke, and it is not an insult by itself. The word shit keeps it crude, so it belongs in group chats, captions and comments rather than in school work, job applications or messages to customers. It can still land badly when the other person has just shared something painful, because a bare "type shit" in reply reads as a shrug. Attached to a personal insult or a threat, the insult is the problem and the phrase just carries it. Black American speakers and hip-hop used the phrase for at least a decade before it spread, and anyone can say it, but a forced delivery tends to sound like a costume. "Type shi", "type shii" and "type 💩" are the same phrase in softer clothes. Know Your Meme says the emoji spelling is used to avoid TikTok censoring the slang. It is also separate from "bet": "bet" confirms a plan ("can you send it tonight?" "bet"), while "type shit" agrees with a mood and commits to nothing.

How to use it
“sleeping in on a sunday type shit”
A caption. The phrase labels the kind of behavior and invites you to recognize it.
“that's some stranger things type shit”
Descriptive use. It means stuff in the style of Stranger Things, and nobody is agreeing with anybody.
“you taking the day off? / type shit”
A reply on its own. It means yes, exactly, good plan.
“i gave it my all and that'll always be enough, type shit”
A closing tag that adds emphasis to the point just made.
Where it came from
The older descriptive use has the longer record. Know Your Meme points to a September 18, 2010 tweet from Playboi Carti containing the phrase "career type shit" as one of the earliest known uses, and an Urban Dictionary entry by Starvingmidget dated December 16, 2010 uses "type shit" to compare something to a familiar kind of behavior. The words are ordinary ones: type is a kind or category, and shit stands in for stuff, so the Daily Dot summarizes the original sense as "this type of stuff".
The standalone reply shows up later in the record. An Urban Dictionary entry from July 16, 2022 defines it as "I feel that", and Wiktionary quotes an agreeing use from March 13, 2024. Strong Language guesses it shortens "that's the type of shit I'm talking about", and says that is a guess. No single coiner is documented. Playboi Carti's 2010 tweet is an early example, not proof of invention.
Two popular stories have attached themselves to the phrase. The Daily Dot reports that Duke Dennis, the YouTuber and streamer many people credit, posted a video saying he does not know where it came from. And in an April 3, 2024 TikTok clip from a podcast, the rapper Duke Deuce says it started in Memphis in 2013. Know Your Meme presents that as his claim, and it sits beside records from 2010.
No single person is credited, the origin is commonly reported.
Where it's popular
Group chats, TikTok captions and comments, Instagram replies, X, Reddit, and gaming and streaming chats, with roots in Black American speech and hip-hop. Rapper Duke Deuce places its start in Memphis, which is his own attribution.

Questions people ask
What is the meaning of type shii?
It is the same phrase as type shit, spelled to look softer. After a description it means "that kind of thing", and as a reply on its own it means agreement, close to "exactly".
What does type mean in slang?
Type here is the ordinary word for a kind or category, like tipo in Spanish. The Daily Dot summarizes the original sense of type shit as "this type of stuff", which is why it works as a label after a description.
How do I respond to type shi?
Match the meaning. If it was a reply agreeing with you, you can leave it there or add "facts" or "for real". If it labeled a vibe in a caption, answer with your own example of the same kind of thing. A plain "same" works in both cases.
How do I use type shi?
Put it after a description of a habit or mood, or send it alone to agree with something. Keep it to casual chats and captions. In writing for school or work, use "exactly" or "I agree".
Is type shit rude?
It is crude because of the word shit, so it is out of place at work, at school or with people you do not know well. Among friends it is usually friendly, and it is not an insult on its own.
What is the difference between type shit and bet?
Bet confirms a plan: "can you send it tonight?" "bet" means yes, I will. Type shit agrees with a mood or labels a kind of behavior, and it does not commit the speaker to anything.
Know Your Meme lists a September 2010 Playboi Carti tweet as one of the earliest known uses of type shit, and reports it earned roughly 10 likes in 15 years.
