Privacy Policy

GenZ Decoded (“we,” “us”) operates the website at genzdecoded.com, a free Gen Z slang dictionary and generational translator. We are based in Texas, United States. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We collect very little.

For ages 13 and up

This site is intended for a general audience aged 13 and older. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

The translator runs in your browser

The translator and decoder work entirely on your device using a built-in dictionary. Anything you type into them is never sent to our servers and is never stored by us.

Information we collect

• Analytics (only after you consent). If you accept cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity to understand how the site is used: pages viewed, general device and browser type, approximate region, and aggregated interaction and session data. Google Analytics is configured to anonymize IP addresses. If you decline or your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, these tools do not load.
• Suggest-a-term form. If you submit the form, we receive the term, its meaning, and an optional email address you choose to provide. It is processed by our form provider (Netlify) and used only to review your suggestion and, if you left an email, to reply.

Cookies and similar technologies

We do not set analytics or advertising cookies until you accept them. When you accept, Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity set their own cookies to measure usage. We honor Global Privacy Control automatically, and you can change your choice any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer. We do not use cookies for targeted advertising, and we do not sell your personal information.

How we use information

• To understand what is useful and improve the dictionary, translator, and site.
• To review a suggested term and reply if you asked us to.

Who we share it with

Only the service providers that make the site work: Google (Analytics), Microsoft (Clarity), and Netlify (hosting and form handling). They process data on our behalf. We do not sell your personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Your rights

EU / UK visitors (GDPR). Our legal basis for analytics is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, the right to data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.

US state privacy rights (including the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act). Depending on your state, you may have the right to know, access, correct, and delete personal data, and to opt out of its sale or targeted advertising. We do not sell personal data or use it for targeted advertising. You may also appeal a decision about a request.

Data retention

Analytics data is retained for the period set in Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity (generally up to 14 months for Analytics). Term suggestions are kept only as long as needed to review and act on them.

International visitors

We operate in the United States. If you access the site from outside the US, your information may be processed in the US and other countries where our providers operate.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site grows. We will change the “last updated” date above when we do.
