Where it came from
The slang sense extends the literal receipt as documentary proof of a transaction. Sources document the evidence meaning in internet culture, but a single coiner and exact first online use are not established. It has strong associations with Black and queer online culture, including ballroom-influenced language, before broad social-media use.
