Meaning

What it means

Huzz means girls or women as a group, and it usually shows up with "the," as in "for the huzz" or "anything for the huzz." Dictionary.com defines it as an altered form of "hoes" and says Gen Z and Gen Alpha use it in real life and online to jokingly refer to women. Dictionary.com also records a second use, a romantic partner, similar to "boo," which tends to appear as "my huzz." The word it is built on sets the tone. Dictionary.com labels "ho" disparaging and offensive and defines it as a sexually promiscuous woman or a prostitute, and Oxford Learner's Dictionaries marks it taboo and offensive. Slang.net says huzz is often used in a derogatory way and that women who hear it may find it inappropriate, and Dictionary.com notes that some people see it as derogatory toward women. Inside a close friend group it may be an ironic joke, and the listener does not have to share the joke. Said to a woman, huzz reads as a label put on her, from a stranger as disrespect and from a classmate as a put-down. If you are unsure what a speaker meant, ask, and say plainly if it was not okay with you. When a parent sees the word in connection with school-age kids, it describes language that is disrespectful on its own terms and says nothing about what any student has done. Plain replacements are "girls," "women," "the girls," "my friends" or the person's name, and for a partner "my girlfriend," "my boyfriend" or "my spouse." The word does not belong in school assignments, professional writing or workplace messages.

Origin

Where it came from

Dictionary.com credits the streamer Kai Cenat with popularizing huzz. Know Your Meme traces the earliest known clip to a February 2023 Twitch livestream in which Cenat teaches an older man to dance and says "for the huzz," with a TikTok repost of the clip on February 16, 2023. An Urban Dictionary user defined "huzz" as "hoes" on February 18, 2023, which shows the word was in public use by then. No single coiner is documented.

TikTok and X carried it further. Know Your Meme records a January 31, 2024 TikTok using "the huzz" that passed 1.6 million plays, and an October 27, 2024 X post that earned more than 56,000 likes in a week. The Daily Dot describes huzz as AAVE-rooted slang that Black content creators made popular. The base word is older: Dictionary.com first records slang "ho" in 1965 to 1970 and calls it a dialectal or African American Vernacular English pronunciation of "whore."

Huzz also started a small family of words that share its ending. Know Your Meme lists bruzz as "bros," gruzz as grandma or grandpa, and chuzz as "chopped" huzz, meaning women the speaker considers unattractive. In March 2026, 2 Chainz's son Halo used "in front of the huzz" on their podcast, and 2 Chainz did not know the word, according to Revolt.
