# How every generation says attractive person

Calling someone attractive is never only about their face: every generation adds its own degree of confidence, intensity, or old-fashioned charm. The newer words tend to praise a whole look and presence, while the older ones can sound like period dialogue even when the compliment is clear.

## Saying "attractive person" across the ages

1. Gen Alphano word of its own

Gen Alpha does not have a settled, generation-specific noun that simply means an attractive person. They may call someone pretty or cute, or say that someone has aura; Merriam-Webster describes aura in this use as a person's cool factor or star power, so it is about charisma and presence as much as looks.

“She has so much aura in that video.”

2. Gen Z[baddie](https://genzdecoded.com/dictionary/baddie/)

A baddie is usually a woman who is confident, stylish, and attractive, not merely good-looking; Merriam-Webster calls it a positive, celebratory compliment. It is current and works warmly between friends or as praise in a comment, though saying it directly to a stranger can still sound like a flirt.

    “You ate that outfit, baddie.”

3. Millennial[smoke show](https://genzdecoded.com/dictionary/smoke-show/)

A smoke show is an exceptionally attractive person, with the emphasis firmly on striking physical appearance. It is casual and often playful or flirtatious, and people usually say it about someone. Aimed at a stranger, it can make the person sound like a spectacle.

“Jamie showed up to the reunion looking like a total smoke show.”

4. Gen X[Betty](https://genzdecoded.com/dictionary/betty/)

A Betty is an attractive young woman, a term associated with late-1980s American skate and surf culture; The Routledge Dictionary of Modern American Slang records the sense in US use by 1993. It now reads retro and a little objectifying outside a nostalgic or joking setting, so it is more likely to appear in a story about the era than as a fresh compliment.

“Back in college, everyone said she was a total Betty.”

5. Boomer[fox](https://genzdecoded.com/dictionary/fox/)

A fox is a sexually attractive person, an older slang compliment that Oxford labels informal. It was first commonly said of women and later of men; today it is readily understood but sounds vintage, so it can feel affectionate in a family anecdote and awkward as a direct appraisal of a stranger.

“Your grandfather was quite the fox in that yearbook photo.”

The through-line

## What they all have in common

All five versions turn attraction into a shortcut, but they do not all make the same claim. Baddie and aura bring confidence or presence into the compliment; smoke show, Betty, and fox put more weight on appearance, which is why their tone matters more when the person can hear you.
